마리아가 맞이한 부활(막16:1~8)

1절에 보면 ‘마리아’라는 이름이 두 번 나옵니다. ‘막달라 마리아’가 나오고, ‘야고보의 어머니 마리아’가 나옵니다. 부활의 소식을 세상에 가장 먼저 알린 용감하고, 귀한 분들입니다. 우리 나라에 영자, 말자가 흔한 이름이있던 것처럼, 당시 유대 사회에서는 10명 중에 1명이 ‘마리아’라는 이름을 가졌을 정도로 흔한 이름입니다.

마리아라는 이름을 가진 유명한 분이 있습니다. 예수님의 어머니, 마리아입니다. 1절 말씀 보다가 예수님의 어머니 ‘마리아’가 떠 올랐습니다. 막달라 마리아, 야고보의 어머니 마리아가 부활을 목격하고 놀랐다면 예수님의 어머니 ‘마리아’는 십자가에서 죽은 자신의 아들, 예수가 부활하여 자신의 눈 앞에 나타났을 때 어땠을까? 어땠을 것 같으십니까?

예수님의 부활을 보고 가장 크게 놀라고, 기뻐한 사람이 누구일까요? 마리아 아닐까요? 자신의 눈 앞에서 십자가에 달려 피흘리며 고통스럽게 죽은 아들이 살아 돌아온 것입니다. 가장 크게 기뻐했을 것입니다. 복음서에는 마리아가 부활한 예수님을 만난 기록은 나오지 않습니다. 하지만 부활하신 주님께서 십자가에서 조차 염려하던 어머니 마리아를 만나지 않을 이유는 없습니다.

어머니 마리아는 큰 기쁨을 가지고 부활한 예수 그리스도를 감격적으로 만났을 것이고, 비로서 자신의 인생 내내 주홍글씨처럼 낙인 찍혔던 결혼전에 애를 밴 품행 나쁜 여자, 매춘부, 바람기 있는 여자라는 오명에서 벗어날 수 있게 됩니다. 부활 사건 이전까지 마리아는 떳떳치 못한 사람이었습니다. 예수님이 공생애를 시작할 때도 사람들의 수군거림은 그치지 않았습니다.

아무리 자신의 임신이 성령에 의한 임신이고, 천사가 와서 말해주었다고 해도 누구하나 귀기울이지 않고, 믿어주지 않았습니다. 돌았나??? 얼마나 속상하고, 힘들었겠습니까? 그래도 남들이 알지 못하는 믿음의 비밀을 가졌기에 수모 속에서도 30년 세월을 견뎌냅니다. 그러다가 주님이 부활하신 것입니다.

부활하신 주님을 사람들이 보고 나서야 마리아의 이야기가 행실 나쁜 여자 아이가 꾸며낸 이야기가 아니라는 것이 증명된 것입니다. 마리아가 말한 모든 일은 사실이었고, 마리아는 하나님의 어머니가 되는 영광을 받은 자가 된 것입니다. 그러니 예수님이 부활하신 채로 마리아에게 걸어 올 때 마리아가 얼마나 기뻤겠습니까? 눈을 번쩍 뜨고 외치지 않았을 가요? ‘거봐. 내가 말했잖아. 내 말이 맞지’

우리도 마리아와 같을 때가 많기 때문에 이 장면을 잘 봐야 합니다. 아무리 복음을 말하고, 하나님을 말하고, 성령의 임재하심을 말해도 ‘이상하게 보는 사람들’, ‘한심하게 보는 사람들’이 얼마나 많습니까? 믿지 못하겠다는 사람들을 믿게 하기에는 역부족입니다.

그래서 우리에게도 부활이 필요합니다. 주님이 다시 오사 부활의 몸으로 우리를 일으켜 세울 때 마리아 처럼 ‘거봐 내 말이 맞았잖아’ 말할수 있게 되는 것입니다. 마리아가 맞이한 부활만큼 우리의 부활도 절실하고, 필요합니다. 부활이 올 때 ‘오명’은 가고 ‘영광’이 올 것입니다.

2.부활이 준 선물
오늘 본문에 보면 부활 사건이 준 선물이 나옵니다. 세 가지를 묵상할 텐데 이 선물은 부활의 현장을 처음 목격한 여자들에게만 해당되는 선물은 아닙니다. 부활을 고백하고, 믿는 모든 이들, 마리아도 들어가고, 제자들도 들어가고, 우리에게도 해당되는 선물입니다. 세 가지 선물은 놀라움(놀람), 회복, 사명입니다. 하나 같이 대단한 선물입니다.

(1) 놀라움.(8절)
부활이 주는 첫 번째 선물은 놀라움입니다. 8절에 보면 빈무덤을 본 여자들이 놀라는 장면이 나옵니다. 주님이 그리워서 위험을 무릅쓰고 갔는데 무덤이 비었습니다. 그때 무덤에 있던 천사 청년이 하는 말, 십자가에 못 박히신 주님이 살아나셨고, 그래서 여기에 없다는 것입니다.

서프라이즈(Surprise), 놀랍지 않으세요. 부활의 놀라움은 하나님이 주신 선물입니다. 누구도 예상하지 못했던 ‘놀람’을 주신 것입니다. 부활은 ‘놀라움의 하나님’이 주신 서프라이즈입니다. 하나님은 놀라움을 주실 수 있는 하나님이십시다.

놀라움의 반대가 뭡니까? 권태, 지루함인데, 하나님은 당신의 사람들에게 지루하지 않으세요. 예상을 깨고 들어오는 하나님의 놀라움을 믿는 게 믿음입니다. 하나님이 없는 사람과 하나님이 있는 사람 중에서 누가 더 지루할 것 같으세요. 하나님 없는 사람이 지루합니다. 그날이 그날 같고, 놀라움도 없이 하루 하루를 살아갑니다.

하지만 하나님이 있는 사람에게는 하나님의 놀라움이 있기에 ‘기대’가 있습니다. 기도하면서 기대하고, 묵상 가운데 기대합니다. 하나님의 사랑과 자비, 아침마다 새롭도다(애3:23) 쳇바퀴 돌듯 무료하게 돌아가는 세상에서 얼마나 놀라운 일입니까? 부활의 소망과 부활의 새 창조를 품은 자들에게 주는 선물입니다.

놓치지 마십시다. 부활뿐이겠습니까? 앞으로도 놀랄 일, 많을 거에요. 주님이 언제 다시 오실지 모르지만 그날도 놀라움 날이 될 것이고, 도래하는 하나님의 나라, 천국은 놀라움의 땅이 될 것입니다. 무엇으로 놀라게 하실지 모르겠지만 기대하면서 살아가십시다.

(2) 회복(7절)
부활이 주는 두 번째 선물은 ‘회복’입니다. 마리아가 받았을 회복을 생각해 보십시오. 30년 세월 마음에 쌓아 두었던 상처와 의문이 부활하신 주님을 보면서 아침 햇살에 사라지는 안개처럼, 봄 바람에 흩날리는 꽃잎처럼 사라지게 됩니다. 부활은 슬픔 많고 아픔 많은 이 땅을 살아가는 하나님의 사람들에게 주는 궁극적인 회복입니다.

7절에 보면 무덤에서 주님의 부활을 전해주던 전령(천사)이 주님에게서 받은 임무를 전해 줍니다.’가서 그의 제자들과 베드로에게 이르기를 예수께서 너희보다 먼저 갈릴리로 가시니 … 너희가 거기서 뵈오리라 하라’

갈릴리에서 만나자는 것입니다. 이 말이 얼마나 따뜻하고, 사랑으로 가득찬 은혜의 말인지 아시겠습니까? 주님은 뒤끝도 없는지 ‘제자들과 베드로’를 다시 보겠다는 것입니다. 주님 뒤통수 친 사람들 아닙니까? 가장 필요한 순간에 배신 때리고 숨어 버린 사람들인데 하시는 말씀이 ‘다시 보자’ 입니다.

특별히 베드로는 따로 언급합니다. 만약에 여기서 ‘베드로’를 말하지 않았다면 베드로는 가기 힘들었을 것입니다.’너희들만 가, 벼룩이도 낯짝이 있지 난 못가’. 부끄러운 이들, 더 부끄러운 이들 전부 어떤 요구도 없이 부르면서 회복 시키십니다. ‘다시 보자. 다시 시작하자’. 은혜입니다.

실패한 베드로가 초대 교회를 이끄는 자가 된 것은 가장 크게 실패했기 때문이고, 가장 크게 실패했기에 가장 깊게 회개했기 때문이고, 하나님의 은혜가 컸기 때문입니다. 흠 많은 우리에게는 ‘기쁜 소식’입니다. 복음은 부끄러운 행위를 은혜로 넘어서게 만듭니다. 자신의 약함과 실패와 부끄러움을 인정하면서 손 내미시는 주님을 받아 들으면 회복이 일어납니다.

부활은 우리의 죄를 용서하시는 하나님의 깊은 은혜입니다. 우리는 주님의 부활로 용서 받은자, 구원받은자, 사랑받는자가 된 것입니다. 부활이 우리에게 준 선물입니다. 잘 받아 회복과 치유와 사랑이 넘치는 복된 부활의 삶을 살아내야 합니다.

(3) 사명(7절)
부활이 주는 세 번째 선물은 ‘사명’입니다. 부활의 소식을 정말 받은 자는 부활을 전하는 사명자가 됩니다. 부활이라고 하는 놀라움, 새로운 창조, 은혜를 전하는 것은 아무나 할 수 있는 게 아닙니다. 부활의 주님과 부활케 하신 하나님을 믿는 자만이 할 수 있는
가치있는 사명이고 일입니다.

7절에 나오는 것처럼 부활은 언제나 ‘가서, 말해야'(go, tell) 하는 ‘사건’입니다. 부활의 놀라움 없이, 권태롭게 사는 폐쇄적인 사고를 가진 사람들에게 가서 부활이 주는 놀라움와 회복과 은혜를 알려줘야 합니다.

부활하신 주님을 만난 마리아, 주님 승천 하신 후에 아름답게 이 사명을 감당합니다. 요한과 함께 초대 교회의 어머니로 상처 많은 자들을 위로하고, 회복시키면서 부활의 소망을 전하다가 생을 마치게 됩니다.

부활은 우리의 삶의 방식 전체를 바꾸게 만드신 하나님의 선물입니다. 부활은 세상에 매이지 않는 자유를 줍니다. 부활은 하나님의 사랑이고 하나님의 능력입니다. 많은 이들이 부활의 생명 안으로 들어오면 좋겠습니다. 저와 여러분의 사명으로 받아 우리도 가서 전하십시다.

부활의 아침입니다. 우리 주님 부활하셨습니다. 마리아가 맞이했던 것과 같은 부활의 기쁨과 감사와 환희가 있기를 바라겠습니다.

The Resurrection Greeted by Mary (Mark 16:1-8)

In verse 1, we see the name “Mary” twice: Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James. These are the brave, precious women who were the first to share the news of the resurrection with the world. Just as we have common names in our own country, both English and Korean, it was a common name in Jewish society at the time, with one in ten people named Mary.

There is a famous person named Mary. Mary, the mother of Jesus. When I read verse 1, I thought of Mary, the mother of Jesus. If Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Mary the mother of Jesus were amazed to witness the resurrection, what do you think Mary, the mother of Jesus, was like when her son, Jesus, who had died on the cross, rose from the dead and appeared before her eyes? What do you think her reaction was?

Who was most surprised and delighted by Jesus’ resurrection? Mary, perhaps? Her son, who had died on the cross, bleeding and in pain, right in front of her eyes, had come back to life. She would have rejoiced the most. The Gospels don’t record Mary meeting the resurrected Jesus, but there’s no reason why the risen Lord couldn’t have met his anxious mother, Mary, even on the cross.

Mary, the mother, would have been thrilled to meet the resurrected Jesus Christ with great joy, and she would have been freed from the stigma of being a woman out of wedlock, a prostitute, and a cheating woman that had been scarlet lettered over her entire life. Prior to the resurrection, Mary was a pariah, and the gossip didn’t stop when Jesus began their symbiotic relationship.

Even if she had told them that her pregnancy was of the Holy Spirit and that an angel had come and told her, no one would listen, no one would believe her. Are you crazy? But she had a secret of faith that no one else knew, so she endured 30 years of shame. And then the Lord rose from the dead.

It wasn’t until people saw the risen Lord that Mary’s story proved that she wasn’t just making things up. Everything Mary had said was true, and she had been honored to be the mother of God. So when Jesus walked up to her, risen from the dead, how happy must Mary have been? Didn’t her eyes light up and she exclaim, “See. I told you so. I was right.’

We need to watch this scene because we are often like Mary. No matter how much we speak the gospel, speak of God, speak of the presence of the Holy Spirit, how many people look at us “strangely” or “pathetically”? It’s not enough to convince the unbelievers to believe.

That is why we also need the resurrection. When the Lord comes again and raises us up in our resurrection bodies, we will be able to say like Mary, “See, I was right. Our resurrection is as urgent and necessary as Mary’s resurrection. When the resurrection comes, the ‘stigma’ will go and the ‘glory’ will come.

2.The gift of the resurrection
In today’s passage, we see the gifts of the resurrection event. We will reflect on three gifts, and they are not just gifts for the women who first witnessed the resurrection. They are gifts for all who confess and believe in the resurrection, for Mary, for the disciples, and for us. The three gifts are surprise, restoration, and mission. Each is a great gift.

(1) Surprise (v. 8)
The first gift of the resurrection is surprise. In verse 8, we see the surprise of the women when they see the empty tomb. They missed the Lord, so they risked going, and the tomb is empty, and then the angelic young man at the tomb tells them that the Lord who was crucified has risen, and that’s why he’s not here.

Surprise, don’t be surprised. The surprise of the resurrection is a gift from God. The resurrection is a surprise from the “God of surprises.” It’s a surprise that no one expected. God is a God who can give surprises.

You know what the opposite of surprise is? Boredom, boredom, and God is not bored with His people. Faith is believing in the surprises of God that come in unexpectedly. Who do you think would be more bored, a person without God or a person with God? The person without God is boring – the day is the same as the day, and there are no surprises.

But for those who have God there is an ‘expectation’ because God is the creator of surprises. Expect in prayer, expect in meditation.

God’s love and mercy, every morning is new (Adea 3:23)
How surprising is it in a world that turns like a spinning wheel? It is a gift to those who have the desire for resurrection and the new creation of resurrection.

Don’t miss. Will it be just resurrection? There will be surprises, many surprises. We don’t know when the Lord will come again but it will be a day of surprises, and the coming kingdom of God, the kingdom of heaven, will be a land of surprises. We don’t know what surprises you, but live in anticipation.

(2) Restoration (v. 7)
The second gift of the resurrection is restoration. Consider the restoration that Mary received. Like the mist that dissipates in the morning sun as you see the risen Lord, the hurts and questions she has been carrying around in her heart for 30 years, like flower petals blowing in the spring breeze.

The resurrection is the ultimate restoration for God’s people in this sad and hurting world.

In verse 7, the messenger (angel) who announced the Lord’s resurrection from the tomb relays the mission he received from the Lord: “Go and tell his disciples and Peter, Jesus is going before you into Galilee … and you will see him there.

Do you see how warm, how full of love, how full of grace these words are? He’s going to see ‘his disciples and Peter’ again, aren’t they the ones who stabbed him in the back, the ones who betrayed him and hid from him when he needed them most, and he says, ‘See you again’.

He doesn’t mention Peter specifically. If he hadn’t said ‘Peter’ here, it would have been hard for Peter to go: ‘You guys go, I can’t go, not even a flea can go’. The shameful ones, the more shameful ones, he restores by calling them all, without any demands: ‘See you again. Let’s start again’. It is grace.

The failed Peter became the leader of the early church because he failed the most, because he failed the most, because he repented the deepest, because God’s grace was great. It is ‘good news’ for us who are flawed. The gospel overcomes shameful behavior with grace. When we acknowledge our weaknesses, failures, and shame and accept the Lord who reaches out to us, restoration happens.

The resurrection is God’s deep grace to forgive our sins. We are forgiven, saved, and loved by the Lord’s resurrection; it is a gift to us. We must receive it well and live a blessed resurrection life of restoration, healing, and love.

(3) Mission (v. 7)
The third gift of the resurrection is mission. Those who have truly received the news of the resurrection become missionaries of the resurrection. Sharing the surprise, new creation, and grace that is the resurrection is not something that just anyone can do. It is a worthy mission and work that only those who believe in the risen Lord and the God who raised him can do.
It’s a worthy mission and work.

As verse 7 says, the resurrection is always an “event” that must “go, tell. We are to go and tell the closed-minded people who live in dullness, without the surprise of the resurrection, about the surprise, restoration, and grace it offers.

Mary, who encountered the risen Lord after His ascension, fulfills this mission beautifully. Along with John, she becomes the mother of the early church and dies comforting, restoring, and sharing the hope of the resurrection with the hurting.

Resurrection is a gift from God that changes our entire way of life. Resurrection gives us freedom from the bondage of the world. Resurrection is God’s love and God’s power. May many come into resurrection life. Let us take it as our mission, my mission and yours, to go and tell.

It’s resurrection morning. Our Lord is risen. May there be the same resurrection joy, gratitude, and rejoicing that greeted Mary.
