예수님의 질문2: 욕망과 기도 (눅 9:18~20, 고전 2:10~16 )

맑고 푸른 가을의 날을 보내고 있습니다. 따뜻한 가을 햇살같은 주님의 은혜가 예배하는 여러분의 마음을 위로하고, 힘을 주기를 바라겠습니다.

1.욕망과 기도
예수님의 질문 보고 있습니다. 너에게 나는 누구냐? 예수님은 신앙의 중심입니다. 잘 알아야 합니다. 잘 알기 위해서는 지난주에 말씀드린 것처럼 알려고 하는 욕망이 있어야 합니다. 수많은 욕망이 있지만, 우리가 가져야 할 최고의 욕망은 하나님입니다.

하나님을 욕망하고, 하나님의 욕망을 욕망하면 하나님의 욕망은 선하기에 우리의 삶은 풍성해지고, 하나님께서 뜻하신 치유와 회복의 삶으로 나아가게 됩니다.문제는 이 욕망이 ‘독을 가진 욕망’에 밀려, 가지기 쉽지 않다는 것입니다. ‘나쁜 욕망’은 쉽고, ‘선한 욕망’은 힘이 듭니다. 주님을 알려는 욕망이 있지만 생각뿐, 검은 욕망에 막힐 때가 많습니다. 이길 방법이 없을까요?

2.기도의 힘과 필요성
이길 방법이 있습니다. ‘기도’가 이기는 방법입니다. 기도 속에 욕망을 분별하는 힘이 있습니다. 기도는 단순한 행위가 아닙니다. 주님을 알게 만드는 영적인 사건입니다.

주님을 알고 싶어 하는 욕망은 기도라는 영적인 도구를 통해 실현됩니다. 기도가 있는 사람은 주님을 생생하게 느낄 수 있지만, 기도가 없으면 주님은 점점 희미해질 수밖에 없습니다.

기도가 이렇게 대단한가요? 기도가 여러분에게는 어떤 의미입니까? 부담과 짐뿐입니까? 아니면 보람과 희망입니까? 목이 마른데 저 앞에 물이 있습니다. 갇혀 있는데 나갈 수 있는 열쇠를 발견했습니다. 진퇴양난 어디로 갈지 모르는데 지도가 생겼습니다. 어떻게 하시겠습니까? 마셔야 되고, 열어야 되고, 따라 가야 합니다. 이게 기도입니다.

기도는 목마른 자에게 주는 생수입니다. 닫힌 문을 여는 열쇠입니다. 어둠을 밝혀주는 등불입니다. 예레미야 선지자가 시위대 뜰에 갇혀 있을 때에 임한 말씀이 뭔지 기억나십니까? ‘너는 내게 부르짖으라 내가 네게 응답하겠고 네가 알지 못하는 크고 비밀한 일을 네게 보이리라’(렘33:3).

기도는 하나님이 주신 기회입니다. 권세이기도 합니다. 사랑입니다. 가장 강하게 욕망해야 할 하늘의 선물입니다. 쉬지 말고 기도하라(살전5:17, 아무 것도 염려하지 말고 오직 모든 일에 기도와 간구로 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라(빌4:6), 의인의 간구는 역사하는 힘이 크다(약5:16). 기회 놓치지 말고 하라는 것입니다.

3.물질주의자와 영성주의자
그리스도인은 물질주의자가 아니라 영성주의자입니다. 영성주의자는 하나님과 영혼의 존재를 믿는 사람입니다. 욥의 친구 엘리후처럼, 영성주의자는 “사람의 속에는 영이 있고 전능자의 숨결이 사람에게 깨달음을 주신다”(욥기 32:8)는 사실을 받아들입니다.

둘의 삶은 다를 수 밖에 없습니다. 영성주의자에게는 영혼의 갈망이 있습니다. 하나님을 찾고,하나님의 뜻을 물으면서 하나님과의 관계를 가장 중요한 삶의 축으로 삼으려고 애씁니다. 영혼이 인간의 본질입니다. 영혼이 중요한 이유는 영혼이 하나님과 연결되는 통로이기 때문입니다. 우리는 육체로 하나님을 만나는 게 아닙니다. 영혼을 통해 하나님과 연결됩니다.

이 연결을 누가 합니까? 기도가 합니다. 지금 우리는 기도를 통해 하나님을 만납니다. 내 안의 또 다른 생명적 존재, 잘 알 수 없지만 하나님이 주신 생명을 가지고 하나님을 찾고 하나님의 소리를 들으면서 하나님과 함께 현재를 살다, 영원의 세계로 옮겨가게 되는 것입니다. 영성주의자의 삶이 복된 이유가 여기에 있습니다.

그런데, 영성주의자라고 하면서‘기도가 없다’, 글쎄요, 뿌리없는 꽃과 같을까요? 금새 시들고 말 것입니다. 영혼을 지키지 못한 것입니다. 드리고 싶은 말씀은 다른게 아닙니다. 기도가 영성주의자들인 우리에게는 생명이라는 것입니다. 기도로 하나님과 연결될 때 영혼이 살아 힘든 인생이지만 찬송하며 살아가는 인생이 되는 것입니다. 영성주의자들에게는 기도는 생명입니다. 물질주의자들과 너무 다른 삶의 방식입니다.

기도는 응답의 관점에서 판단하기 전에 영혼의 관점에서 먼저 봐야 합니다. 영혼의 관점에서 기도를 보면 기도는 영혼의 호흡, 영혼의 정화, 영혼의 양식입니다. 기도는 호흡이니 영혼을 살게 합니다. 기도는 영혼을 깨끗하게합니다. 기도하는 영혼은 풍성해집니다. 기도가 만들어 내는 삶입니다. 기도는 신자의 자부심입니다.

4.기도와 성령의 관계
오늘 본문에서 기도가 예수님을 알게 만드는 결정적인 이유가 나옵니다. 바울은 성령이 어떻게 하나님과 영혼을 연결해 주는지를 나열합니다. 성령이 무슨 일을 합니까?

첫째, 성령은 하나님의 깊은 뜻을 알게(통찰) 하십니다 (고전 2:10-12). 성령은 하나님의 영이시기 때문에 하나님의 마음과 계획을 아십니다. 하나님의 뜻을 알기 위해서는 성령의 도움이 필수적입니다. 영혼은 성령을 통해 하나님의 뜻을 알 수 있습니다.

둘째, 성령은 영적인 분별력을 갖게 만듭니다 (고전 2:13-15). 13절에서 “우리가 이것을 말하거니와 사람의 지혜가 가르친 말로 아니하고 오직 성령께서 가르치신 것으로 하니, 영적인 일은 영적으로 분별하느니라”라고 말씀합니다. 세상은 하나님의 뜻을 이해하지 못하지만, 성령을 통해 하나님의 뜻과 사정을 분별할 수 있습니다. 영혼이 세상의 소리에 흔들리지 않고, 하나님의 뜻을 올바르게 이해하는 데에는 성령의 지혜가 필요합니다.

셋째, 성령은 그리스도의 마음을 가지게 합니다 (고전 2:16). 16절은 이렇게 말씀합니다. “누가 주의 마음을 알아서 주를 가르치겠느냐 그러나 우리가 그리스도의 마음을 가졌느니라.” 성령은 영혼을 그리스도의 마음으로 인도하는 역할을 합니다. 예수님에 대한 지식으로는 주님이 누구인지 깊이 알 수 없습니다. 성령을 통해 그리스도의 마음을 온전히 알 수 있게 됩니다.

주님을 알기 위한 세 가지 조건이 나옵니다. 하나님의 뜻 , 영적인 분별력, 그리스도의 마음을 가지는 것입니다. 이 모든 것을 성령께서 하십니다. 여기서 중요한 것은 성령은 이 일을 ‘기도’를 통해 하신다는 것입니다.

기도할 때 하나님의 뜻을 알 수 있고, 영적 분별력이 생기고, 주님의 마음을 가질 수 있게 됩니다. 기도는 없으면 안됩니다. 기도는 욕망할만 합니다. 기도는 주님을 알 수 있게하는 최고의 길입니다

5.기도는 주님을 알게 하는 최고의 수단
주님은 역사적 지식으로만 알 수 있는 존재가 아닙니다. 주님은 성령이 주시는 계시와 은혜로 온전히 알 수 있습니다. 이 은혜가 기도에서 옵니다. 주님을 알고자하는 욕망을 가지고, 기도의 순간을 가질 때 주님은 현재화된 주님으로 함께 하시게 되는 것입니다.

영성주의자가 살아가는 삶의 방식입니다. 기도는 현실을 부정하지 않고, 현실을 직시하게 만듭니다. 현실을 직시하기에 기도하는 사람은 방심하지 않습니다. 극복하고자 하는 선한 욕망이 있습니다. 하나님의 뜻을 알고자 하는 갈망이 있습니다. 하나님과 대면하려고 하는 영적인 갈급함이 있습니다. 이름만 걸어두고 신앙의 삶에 만족하지 않습니다. 기도의 밑바닥에는 욕망이 있습니다. 얼마나 현실적입니까?

때로 이 욕망이 그릇된 욕망이 되서 기도를 자신의 욕망을 이루는 수단으로 쓰기도 하지만 하나님은 이런 기도도 사용해서 당신의 사람으로 다듬어 가십니다. 우리가 믿는 것은 기도도 아니고, 기도의 힘도 아닙니다. 기도하라 하셨던 주님을 믿기에 기도하는 것입니다. 기도를 믿으면 기도가 조건이 되서 내 뜻대로 되야 하지만 주님을 믿으면 주님께 모든 것을 맡기면 되는 것입니다.

기도의 힘은 주님에게 있습니다. 주님에게 있기에, 응답, 거절, 기다림 전부 신뢰할 수 있습니다. 기도를 통해 원하는 것을 얻지 못할 수 있습니다. 하지만 너무 실망하지 마십시다. 하나님은 진실하게 기도하는 우리에게 가장 큰 선물, 기도의 가장 큰 응답, ‘하나님’ 자신을 주십니다.

희망이 필요할 때마다 기도하십시다. 쓸쓸한 순간이 오면 기도하십시다. 기도가 단비가 되서 메말라 있던 영혼을 푸르게 만들어 줄 것입니다. 길게 기도하지 않아도 됩니다. 짧게 짧게 하나님을 부르고, 간구하는 마음을 올려드리면 됩니다.

기도를 욕망하십시다. 주님을 알 수 있고, 나도 알 수있고, 세상도 알 수 있게 됩니다. 여러분의 기도가 노래가 되서 하늘 보좌로 훨훨 날아가게 되기를 바라겠습니다.

Jesus’ Questions 2: Desire and Prayer (Luke 9:18-20; 1 Corinthians 2:10-16)

We are enjoying a clear, blue autumn day. May the Lord’s grace, like the warm autumn sunshine, comfort and strengthen your worshipping heart.

1.Desire and Prayer
I am looking at Jesus’ question. Who do I say to you? Jesus is the centre of our faith. To know him well, we must have a desire to know him, as I said last week. There are many desires, but the greatest desire we should have is God.

When we desire God, when we desire God’s desires, our lives are enriched because God’s desires are good, and we move into the life of healing and restoration that God intends for us.The problem is that this desire is not easy to have, crowded out by ‘poisonous desires.’ The ‘bad desires’ are easy, the ‘good desires’ are hard. I have a desire to know the Lord, but my thoughts are often blocked by black desires. Is there any way to overcome them?

2.The Power and Necessity of Prayer
There is a way to overcome, and it is through prayer. Prayer has the power to discern desires. Prayer is not just an act; it is a spiritual event that brings us to know the Lord.

The desire to know the Lord is realised through the spiritual tool of prayer. With prayer, a person can feel the Lord vividly, but without prayer, the Lord can only grow dimmer and dimmer.

Is prayer this great? What does prayer mean to you? Is it only a burden and a burden, or is it a reward and a hope? I am thirsty and there is water in front of me. I’m locked up and I’ve found the key to get out. You’re lost and don’t know where to go, but you have a map. What do you do? You have to drink, you have to open it, you have to follow it. This is prayer.

Prayer is living water to the thirsty. It’s a key to open a closed door. It’s a lamp to light the darkness. Do you remember the words of the prophet Jeremiah when he was trapped in the courtyard of the protesters: ‘You will call to me and I will answer you, and I will show you great and secret things that you do not know’ (Jer. 33:3).

Prayer is a God-given opportunity. It is authority. It is love. It is a heavenly gift that we should desire most intensely. Pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17, Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6), and the supplication of a righteous man is powerful (James 5:16). Do not miss the opportunity.

3.Materialists and Spiritualists
Christians are not materialists, but spiritualists. A spiritualist is someone who believes in the existence of God and the soul. Like Job’s friend Elihu, a spiritualist accepts that ‘there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives man understanding’ (Job 32:8).

The two lives are different: the spiritualist has a soul’s longing. It seeks God, asks God’s will, and strives to make its relationship with God the most important axis of its life. The soul is the essence of being human. The reason the soul is important is that it is the channel through which we connect to God. We don’t meet God in the body; we connect to God through the soul.

Who makes this connection? Prayer does it. Now we meet God through prayer. With another living being inside of me, a life that I don’t really know, but it’s God-given.
By seeking God, by listening to God, by living in the present moment with God, we are transported into the world of eternity. This is why the life of a spiritualist is blessed.

Now, if you say you’re a spiritualist and you say, ‘I don’t pray,’ well, are you like a flower without roots? It will wither quickly; it has not kept its soul. What I’m saying is not that, what I’m saying is that prayer is life for us who are spiritualists. When we connect with God in prayer, our souls are alive, and it becomes a life of praise, albeit a difficult life. For spiritualists, prayer is life. It is a way of life so different from the materialist.

Prayer must be seen from the perspective of the soul before it can be judged from the perspective of answers. When you look at prayer from the perspective of the soul, prayer is the breath of the soul, the purification of the soul, the food of the soul. Prayer is breathing, so it nourishes the soul. Prayer cleanses the soul. Prayer enriches the soul. Prayer is the life it produces. Prayer is the pride of the believer.

4..The relationship between prayer and the Holy Spirit
In today’s passage, we see a crucial reason why prayer leads to knowing Jesus. Paul lists how the Holy Spirit connects the soul to God. What does the Holy Spirit do?

First, the Holy Spirit gives us knowledge (insight) into the deep will of God (1 Corinthians 2:10-12). Because the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, He knows the mind and plans of God. The Holy Spirit’s help is essential to knowing God’s will. The soul can know God’s will through the Holy Spirit.

Second, the Holy Spirit causes us to have spiritual discernment (1 Corinthians 2:13-15). Verse 13 says, ‘For we have not spoken these things in words taught by human wisdom, but by the Holy Spirit: for the things that are spiritual are spiritually discerned.’ The world does not understand the will of God, but we can discern the will and affairs of God through the Holy Spirit. It takes the wisdom of the Holy Spirit to keep the soul from being swayed by the sounds of the world and to rightly understand the will of God.

Third, the Holy Spirit gives us the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16). Verse 16 says ‘For who can know the mind of the Lord and teach him, but we have the mind of Christ.’ The Holy Spirit is responsible for guiding the soul to the mind of Christ. Knowledge of Jesus does not give us a deep knowledge of who the Lord is; the Holy Spirit enables us to fully know the mind of Christ.

The three conditions for knowing the Lord are listed: knowing the will of God, spiritual discernment, and having the mind of Christ. The Holy Spirit does all of these things. The important thing to note is that the Holy Spirit does this through ‘prayer’.

It is through prayer that we are able to know God’s will, have spiritual discernment, and have the mind of Christ. Prayer is indispensable. Prayer is worthy of desire. Prayer is the best way to know the Lord

5.Prayer is the best means of knowing the Lord
The Lord cannot be known by historical knowledge alone; He can only be known fully by the revelation and grace of the Holy Spirit. This grace comes through prayer. When we have a desire to know the Lord, when we have a moment of prayer, the Lord becomes present to us as the embodied Lord.

This is the way of life that the spiritualist lives. Prayer doesn’t deny reality, it makes you face reality. Because it faces reality, the prayerful person is not defensive. There is a good desire to overcome. There is a hunger to know God’s will. There is a spiritual hunger to be face-to-face with God. They’re not satisfied with a life of faith in name only. Underneath prayer is desire. How realistic is it?

Sometimes this desire becomes a false desire and we use prayer as a means to fulfil our own desires, but God uses these prayers to shape us into His person. It is not prayer that we believe in, it is not the power of prayer, we pray because we believe in the Lord who told us to pray. If we believe in prayer, it becomes a condition, it has to be my way, but if we believe in the Lord, we can leave everything to Him.

The power of prayer is in the Lord. Because it’s in Him, you can trust Him with the answer, the rejection, and the waiting. You may not get what you want through prayer. But don’t get discouraged. God gives the greatest gift, the greatest answer to prayer, to those of us who pray sincerely – God Himself.

Pray whenever you need hope. Pray whenever you feel lonely. Prayer will be the honeydew that will make your parched soul green. You don’t have to pray long. You just need to call on God in short bursts and lift up your petitions.

Desire to pray. You will know Him, I will know Him, and the world will know Him. May your prayers become a song and soar to the throne of heaven.
