하루하루 살아요(출16:1~21)

1.하루
오늘 말씀 제목을 보면 ‘하루’라는 소중한 단어가 들어 있습니다. 하루가 모여 삶이 만들어지고, 일생이 만들어 지기에 하루는 소홀히 할 수 없는 시간입니다. 여러분의 요즘 하루는 어떠십니까? 바쁘다. 지루하다는 말 말고 보람되고 뜻 깊은 시간이 많으면 좋겠습니다.모세가 시90:12에서 고백했던 것 처럼 우리도 우리에게 주어진 날을 잘 헤아리는 지혜가 절실합니다. 좋은 하루가 많아지면 일생이 좋아집니다.

하루살이를 주장한 두 명의 사상가가 있습니다. 한국에서는 다석 유영모 선생(1890~1981)이고, 일본에서는 우짜무라 간조(1861~1930)입니다. 다석은 아침에 눈을 뜨는 것이 태어나는 것이고, 저녁에 잠자리에 드는 것에 죽는 것이라고 하면서 하루의 일생을 사는 ‘오늘 살이’의 중요함을 역설합니다.

일본의 근대 사상가였던 우찌무라 간조는 그의 묵상집을 [一日一生]이라는 제목으로 펴냈습니다. 하루가 일생이니, 하루에 삶에 실패하지 말자는 것입니다. 실패하지 않는 방법으로 말씀을 제시합니다. 하루를 시작하는 아침에 제일 먼저 하나님의 말씀을 읽고, 기도하자는 것이 이 책의 메시지입니다. 이 묵상이 우리의 하루를 뜨겁고, 깊게 살려 낸다는 것입니다. [일일일생](홍성사)에서 몇 구절 가지고 왔습니다.

재산을 잃어도 좋다. 원컨대 하나님의 거룩한 얼굴을 잃지 않기를, 병들어 괴로워도 좋다. 원컨대 하나님의 거룩한 뜻을 의심하지 않기를. 사람에게 버림받아도 좋다. 원컨대 하나님께 버림받지 않기를. 하나님은 나의 전부, 하나님을 잃으면 나는 내 모든 것을 잃는 것이다. 우리에게 아버지를 보여 주소서. 그러면 족하리이다. 내 일생의 목적은 하나님을 보고 그분을 내 소유로 삼는 것. 오직 그뿐이다(20쪽)

첨탑이 하늘 높이 솟아 있고, 풍금이 음악을 연주하는 그윽한 곳만이 하나님의 교회가 아니다. 효자가 가난한 가계에 보탬이 되려고 추운 밤 물건을 파는 곳, 이곳도 하나님의 교회가 아닌가. 아내가 남편 병을 걱정하여 동천이 아직 밝기도 전에 엎드려 기도하는 곳, 이곳도 하나님의 교회가 아닌가. 세상의 오해를 받아 사방에서 공격해 올 때, 벗이 있어 홀로 서서 그를 변호하는 곳, 이곳도 하나님의 교회가 아닌가. 아아, 하나님의 교회를 흰 벽이나 붉은 기와 안에 있는 것으로 생각한 나의 어리석음이여. 하나님의 교회는 우주같이 넓고 세상에 선인이 많은 것처럼 많다(259쪽).

완전한 가정을 만드는 일은, 완전한 사람을 만드는 일만큼 힘들다. 받고 싶어서 이룬 가정은 반드시 파괴된다. 주고 싶어서 이룬 가정만이 행복한 가정이다 (307쪽).

생각이 많이 다릅니다. 말씀이 만들어 낸 차이입니다. 말씀으로 하루를 시작한 사람에게 주는 선물은 ‘분별력’ 입니다. 무엇이 옳은지, 해야 할 일은 무엇인지, 하지 말아야 할 말과 행동은 무엇인지를 알게 해서 나와 너, 모두를 살리게 해줍니다.

2. 분별력
오늘 본문에서 이스라엘 백성들은 다시 불평하기 시작합니다. 앞에서는 물이 없어서 불평했고, 오늘은 먹을게 없어서 불평합니다. 출애굽한지 45일 정도에 일어난 일(16:1)입니다. 불평의 강도가 더 쎄지고, 치사해 졌습니다. 온 힘을 다해 자유자가 되게 해주었는데 한다는 말은 고기와 떡을 배불리 먹던 이집트로 다시 돌아가 죽더라도 거기서 죽고 싶다는 것입니다. 정신 나간 것 아닙니까?

분별력 제로입니다. 아무리 분별의 능력이 떨어져도 똥 오줌은 가려야 하는데, 똥인지 오줌인지도 가리지 못하고 있습니다. 불과 며칠 전에도 물 때문에 불평하다가 물 먹어 놓고도 전후좌우 아무 생각이 없습니다.

분별은 통찰력입니다. 보이는 것만 보지 않고 보이는 현상 너머에 있는 것까지 꿰뚫어 보는 능력인데, 보신 것처럼 이 모습이 안 보입니다. 부족해도 한참 부족합니다. 노예살이가 만든 불행입니다. 하라고 하면 하고, 말라고 하면 말고. 분별할 필요도 없고, 분별해서도 안됩니다. 본능적이고, 감각적입니다. 생각할수록 손해고, 힘듭니다. 이렇게 400년을 살다 나온 사람들입니다. 판단력, 지혜, 이해, 다 부족합니다.

이런 이들을 이끌어 가나안 땅으로 데리고 들어가야 합니다. 불평한다고 내칠 수 없습니다.
물 없다 하면 물 주고, 먹을 거 없다하면 먹을 것을 준 것은 이들의 상황을 이해한다는 것이고, 그것을 먹으면서 어떻게 생각해야 할 지를 가르쳐 주시는 것입니다.

분별은 그리스도인의 삶에 꼭 있어야 하는 근본입니다. 하나님의 마음과 뜻도 분별이 없으면 알 수 없습니다. 분별 할 때 인내할 수 있지, 분별이 없으면 불평에서 벗어날 수 없습니다. 분별이 있어야 번지르한 유혹을 걸러낼 수 있습니다. 분별하지 못하면 경배의 대상이 하나님이 아니라 우상이 되 버립니다. 분별을 가지고 사는 것은 중요합니다. 우리의 분별력은 어느 정도일까요? 높으면 좋겠습니다. 남들이 보지 못하는 하나님의 뜻을 보면서 일어나는 일에 일희일비하지 않고 진중하고 의연하게, 사랑을 품고 신자답게 사리 분별하면 얼마나 좋겠습니까? 분별은 어떻게 하면 생깁니까?

3.분별의 출처
(1) 은혜 알아 보기
분별은 은혜를 알아 볼 때 생깁니다. 은혜를 알면 감사하고, 모르면 불평이 나올 수 밖에 없습니다. 이 사람들이 왜 불평합니까? 하나님이 베푸신 은혜는 보지 못하고, 힘든 것만 보니까 불평하는 것입니다. 은혜를 보지 못하면 분별력도 사라집니다. 쓴 물이 단 물로 바뀐 것도 은혜고, 눈 앞에 구름 기둥, 불기둥이 함께 하는 가슴 떨리는 은혜 가운데 있는데도
보지 못하니까 어리석게 행동합니다.

불평을 막고, 어리석은 판단을 막는 최고의 방법은 베푸신 은혜를 알아보고, 마음에 새기는 것입니다. 은혜는 깊이 알수록 좋습니다. 그들이 받은 은혜가 뭡니까? 동행의 은혜, 구원의 은혜, 말씀의 은혜. 우리도 가지고 있는 3대 은혜입니다.이 세 가지 은혜는 신앙을 고백한 이들이라면 차별 없이 받는 은혜입니다. 구원하시고, 언제 어디서나 동행하시고, 말씀으로 인도하십니다. 출애굽의 그들이나, 우리나 변하지 않는 사실입니다. 우리를 견고하게 만들어 주는 은혜입니다.

오늘 말씀에 보면 배고프다, 불평하는 그들에게 아무 소리 안하시고 뭘 주십니까? 만나와 메추라기를 주십니다. 만나와 메추라기는 은혜를 알아보지 못하는 이들에게 주는 ‘새로운 은혜’ 입니다. 함께 하고 있다는 사인(Sign) 입니다. 불평만 하지 말고 다시 분별하라는 것입니다. 우리도 받은 게 없다 하지말고 매의 눈을 가지고 찾아야 합니다. 많은 은혜가 보이면 좋겠습니다. 은혜가 보일 때 분별의 눈과 마음이 열리고, 감사는 덤으로 받게 될 것입니다.

(2) 진리 발견하기
분별은 어디서 오는가? 두 번째, 분별은 ‘진리’를 발견할 때 옵니다. 진리 안에 있을 때 흔들리지 않는 분별력을 가지고, 판단하고, 처신 할 수 있습니다. 만나를 통해 이 사람들이 발견한 진리가 있습니다. 하늘에서 비같이 내려 그들 앞에 나타난 하얀 만나는, 하루 이틀 내리다가만 우연이 아니라 그들이 가나안에 들어갈 때까지 40년간 매일 아침 먹은 부인할 수 없는 사실, 진실이라는 것입니다.

만나와 메추라기가 그곳의 산물이라는 이유로 이 현상을 폄하하는 사람들이 있지만 2백만의 사람들이 매일 먹었던 만나와 메추라게를 설명할 수 있는 길은 하나님의 초월성 밖에 없습니다. 하늘에서 내려오는 만나를 보면서 ‘아, 하나님’하는 사람은 ‘하나님’이라는 진리를 발견하는 것입니다. 분별 할 수 있게 됩니다.

만나를 어떻게 주십니까? 딱 하루분, 일용할 양식만 줍니다. 걱정해서 많이 거두든, 욕심 부려 많이 거두든 다음 날이면 벌레 나고, 전부 썩어 버립니다. 욕심을 허용하지 않으십니다. 모세도 아론도 이름 없는 사람도 다 똑같습니다.말 그대로 일용할 양식이고, 하루살이, 오늘살이입니다. 모든 사람이 다 매일의 하늘 양식, 매일의 주시는 은혜가 없으면 살 수 없게 하십니다.

그토록 믿지 못하고 기회만 있으면 불평하는 사람들에게 매일 믿어라’, ‘매일 신뢰’하라는 사인을 주고 계시는 것입니다. 그들이 발견하고 배워야 할 진리이고, 진실입니다. 이 진리를 가지고 계십니까? 어떤 순간에도 매일 신뢰하고, 매일 의지하십니까? 이 진리를 가지고 있을 때 하나님의 사람으로 분별하고, 행동할 수 있게 되는 것입니다.

오늘 말씀 제목이 ‘하루하루 살아요’ 입니다. 하나님 안에서 하나님의 은혜로, 하나님을 신뢰하면서 하루하루 사는 것이 우리 삶의 진실이고, 진리입니다. 이 사실을 잊지 맙시다. 이런 하루가 중요합니다. 찬양입니다. “내일 일은 난 몰라요, 하루하루 살아요. 불행이나 요행이나 내 뜻대로 못해요. 험한 이 길 가고 가도 끝은 없고 곤해요. 주님 예수 팔 내미사 내 손 잡아 주소서. 내일 일은 난 몰라요, 장래 일도 몰라요. 아버지여 날 붙드사 평탄한 길 주옵소서”.

22절에 보면 안식일에는 두 배를 주십니다. 우리 식으로 말하면 먹거리 책임질테니까 전전긍긍하지 말고 마음 편히 삶의 근원이신 하나님을 경외하며, 하나님을 예배하라는 것입니다. 믿고 받으면 좋겠습니다. 하나님 신뢰하지 못하고 하는 모든 수고와 무거운 짐은 거품으로 끝날 수 있다는 사실을 언제쯤 알 수 있겠습니까? 하늘에서 내려오는 만나, 더 많이 받으시고, 누리시고, 경험하시기 바랍니다.

저장할 수 없는 것은 만나만 있는 게 아닙니다. 사랑도 저장할 수 없습니다. 사랑은 어제의 사랑도 아니고, 내일의 사랑도 아닙니다. 사랑은 오늘 사랑입니다. 오늘 사랑이 우리를 살립니다. 매일의 아침을 새롭게 만들어야 합니다. 용서도, 믿음도, 인내도 오늘이 중요한 오늘의 만나입니다. 매일의 새로운 사랑과 매일의 새로운 용서와 매일의 새로운 믿음과 말씀이 모일 때 보람되고 가치있는 일생이 만들어 지는 것입니다.

내일 일은 난 몰라요. 내일 하겠다고 미루지 마십시다. 미루면 썩을 뿐입니다. 오늘 먹어야 할 만나는 오늘 먹어야 합니다. 불평하는 이스라엘 사람들에게 보여주신 하나님의 진리입니다. 이 진리가 우리를 분별하는 자로 만들어서 하나님과 동행하는 자로 서게 할 것입니다. 삶은 하루를 살아내는 것입니다. 하루가 중요합니다. 하나님의 은혜를 분별하면서 주시는 매일의 만나, 사랑, 은혜, 믿음을 가지고 불평 넘치는 세상에서도감사와 찬송으로 살아가는 여러분들의 인생이 되기를 바라겠습니다.

Live One Day at a Time (Exodus 16:1-21)

1. One Day
The title of today’s message contains the precious word “day”. A day makes a life, and a day makes a lifetime, so a day is a time you can’t afford to neglect. How does your day look like these days? Busy. I’m not saying it’s boring, but I’m hoping it’s full of rewarding and meaningful times.As Moses confessed in Psalm 90:12, we are in desperate need of wisdom to number our days well. More good days make for a better life.

There are two thinkers who advocated living by the day. In Korea, it’s Dr. Yoo Young Mo Dassok (1890-1981), and in Japan, it’s Kanzo Uchamura (1861-1930). Daseok emphasized the importance of “living today” by saying that you are born when you open your eyes in the morning and die when you go to bed at night.

Uchimura Kanzo, a modern Japanese thinker, titled his collection of devotionals 一日一生: A day is a lifetime, so let’s not fail at life in a day. He presents the Word as a way to not fail. The message of this book is that we should read God’s word first thing in the morning when we start our day, and pray, and this meditation will make our day hot and deep. I’ve taken a few verses from [Daily Life] (Hongseong).

It is okay to lose my possessions. It is okay to be sick and suffer, lest I lose God’s holy face. May not doubt God’s holy will. May be rejected by men. May not be abandoned by God. God is my everything, and if I lose God, I lose everything. Show us the Father, and we shall be satisfied. The purpose of my life is to see God and to make Him my own. That is all there is (p. 20)

The church of God is not just a place where the steeple soars high in the sky and the wind chimes play music. Where a filial son sells goods on a cold night to help a poor family, this is not the Church of God. Where a wife fears for her husband’s health and prostrates herself in prayer before the sun has even risen, this is also the Church of God. When a man is misunderstood by the world and attacked from all sides, he stands alone with his friend and defends him, is not this also the church of God? Alas, how foolish of me to think of the Church of God as being within white walls or red tiles. The Church of God is as wide as the universe, and as numerous as the good men of the world (p. 259).

It is as hard to make a perfect family as it is to make a perfect man. A family built to receive is sure to be destroyed. A family built to give is a happy family (p. 307).

That’s a big difference. It’s a difference made by the Word. The gift of a person who begins their day with the Word is discernment. Knowing what’s right, what to do, and what not to say and do saves me, you, and everyone else.

2. Discernment
In today’s text, the Israelites begin to complain again. Earlier they complained because there was no water, and today they complain because there is no food. This happened about 45 days into the Exodus (16:1). The intensity of the complaining has become more bitter, more vicious. They’ve done everything in their power to set you free, and all they’re saying is that they want to go back to Egypt, where they had a full stomach of meat and bread, and they want to die there. Isn’t that insane?

That’s zero discernment. No matter how poor your discernment is, you have to cover your shit, and you can’t even tell if it’s shit or piss. Just a few days ago, you were complaining about water, and now you’re drinking it and you don’t have a clue.

Discernment is insight. It’s the ability to see beyond the visible to what is beyond the visible, and as you can see, they don’t have it. They don’t have enough of it. This is the misery of slavery. When told to do, do; when told not to do, don’t do. It doesn’t need to be discerned, it shouldn’t be discerned. It’s instinctive, it’s sensory. The more you think about it, the more you lose, the harder it is. This is how people live for 400 years. They lack judgment, wisdom, understanding, all of it.

God have to lead them and bring them into the land of Canaan. God can’t let them complain. If they don’t have water, God give them water; if they don’t have food, God give them food; if they don’t have water, God give them food, because God understand their situation, and God teach them what to think as they eat it.

Discernment is fundamental to the Christian life. Without discernment, we cannot know the mind and will of God; without discernment, we cannot be patient; without discernment, we cannot be free from complaining; without discernment, we cannot filter out temptation. Without discernment, the object of our worship becomes an idol instead of God. It’s important to live with discernment. How good is our discernment? I hope it’s high. How good would it be if we could see God’s will where others don’t, and discern what’s going on, and do it seriously, deliberately, lovingly, and as a believer? How does discernment happen?

3.Sources of Discernment
(1) Recognizing grace
Discernment comes from recognizing grace. When you recognize grace, you are grateful; when you don’t, you complain. Why do these people complain? They complain because they don’t see the grace that God has given them, they only see the hardships. When you don’t see grace, you lose discernment. It’s grace that turned bitter water into sweet water, and it’s grace that you are in the midst of heart-stopping grace with a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire before your eyes. We act foolishly because we don’t see it.

The best way to stop complaining, to stop foolish judgment is to recognize the grace that has been given, to take it to heart.The more you know about grace, the better.What was the grace they received? The grace of companionship, the grace of salvation, the grace of the Word. These are the three graces that we have as well, and they are graces that all professing believers receive without discrimination. He saves, he accompanies us everywhere, and he guides us by his Word. It’s the same for them at the Exodus and it’s the same for us. It’s a grace that keeps us strong.

In today’s passage, when they are hungry and complaining, God says nothing, and what does he give them? He gives them manna and quails. Manna and quails are “new grace” to those who don’t recognize grace. It’s a sign that you’re in this together. We are not to complain, but to discern again. We are not to say that we have not received anything, but to look for it with hawk’s eyes. Hopefully, we will see a lot of grace. When we see grace, our eyes and hearts will be opened to discern, and gratitude will be a bonus.

(2) Discovering the truth
Second, discernment comes from discovering “the truth. When you are in the truth, you can discern, judge, and act with unwavering discernment. Here is the truth these men discovered through the manna. That the white manna that fell like rain from the sky and appeared before them was not just a fluke for a day or two, but an undeniable fact, a truth that they ate every morning for 40 years until they entered Canaan.

There are those who disparage this phenomenon on the grounds that manna and quail are products of the land, but there is no other way to explain the manna and quail that two million people ate every day but the transcendence of God. Anyone who sees manna coming down from heaven and says, “Ah, God,” is discovering the truth that it is God. They become able to discern.

How do you give manna? Just one day’s supply, just one day’s food. Whether you harvest a lot because you’re worried, or you harvest a lot because you’re greedy, the next day it’s wormy, and it’s all rotten. He doesn’t allow greed. It’s the same with Moses, it’s the same with Aaron, it’s the same with the man without a name, it’s literally daily bread, this day, this hour. He doesn’t allow anyone to live without daily heavenly food, daily grace.

He’s giving a sign to those who don’t believe, who complain at every opportunity, to ‘believe every day’, to ‘trust every day’.It’s a truth that they need to discover and learn, it’s a truth.Do you have this truth, do you trust every day, do you rely every day, no matter what.When you have this truth, you will be able to discern, to act as a man of God.

That’s why today’s message is titled, “Live One Day at a Time. Living one day at a time in God, by God’s grace, trusting God, is the truth, the truth of our lives. Let’s not forget that. It’s days like this that count. It’s praise. “I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow, I live one day at a time, I can’t control misfortune, I can’t control good fortune, I can’t control bad fortune, I can’t control this rough road, it’s never ending, Lord Jesus, open your arms and take my hand. I don’t know what tomorrow brings, and I don’t know what the future holds. Father, hold me and give me a smooth path.”

In verse 22, he gives them double on the Sabbath. Our way of saying it is, don’t worry, we’ll take care of the food, just relax and worship God, the source of life. Trust and receive, because when will you know that all the labor and heavy lifting you do without trusting God can end in a froth? Manna from heaven, may you receive more of it, enjoy it, experience it.

It’s not just manna that can’t be stored. Love can’t be stored either. Love is not yesterday’s love, it’s not tomorrow’s love. Love is today’s love. Love today is what keeps us alive. We have to make it new every morning. Forgiveness, faith, and patience are all about today. It is when each day’s new love and each day’s new forgiveness and each day’s new faith and the Word come together that a rewarding and worthwhile life is created.

I don’t know about tomorrow, so don’t put it off for tomorrow. Procrastination will only cause you to rot. The manna that must be eaten today must be eaten today. This is the truth of God shown to the grumbling Israelites, and it is this truth that will make us discerners and stand as walkers with God. Life is about making it through the day, and every day counts. May yours be a life lived in thanksgiving and praise in a complaining world, with the daily manna, love, grace, and faith that comes from discerning God’s grace.
