로마서 15: 비웃음 속에서도 꾸준히 (롬2:4~11)

1. 비웃음의 현실

오늘은 “비웃음 속에서도 꾸준히”라는 제목으로 로마서 2:4~11 말씀을 보겠습니다.

본문에서 ‘비웃음’은 4절의 ‘멸시’이고, ‘꾸준히’는 7절의 ‘참고’입니다.

하나님의 인자하심과 오래 참으심이 사람들에게 비웃음을 당하고 있습니다. 그러나 무너지지 말고, 참고, 꾸준히 선을 행하라는 말씀이 오늘 본문의 핵심입니다. 왜요? 하나님의 공정한 심판이 있기 때문입니다.

비웃음은 신앙인들이 실제로 마주하는 현실입니다.선을 행하는 삶은 하나님을 닮는 삶입니다.

복수와 거짓이 일상인 세상 속에서, 정직하고 정의롭게 사는 것은 어렵고 조롱받기 쉽습니다.

그러나 ‘신앙이란 이해할 수 없음을 견디는 능력이다’라는 키에르케고르의 말처럼, 신앙은 참고 견디는 힘입니다.

오늘 말씀을 통해 비웃음 속에서도 참고 선을 행해야 하는 세 가지 이유를 살펴보겠습니다.

2.참고 선을 행해야 하는 세 가지 이유

(1) 기억 – 하나님은 우리의 선을 기억하십니다 (6~10절)

비웃음 속에서도 꾸준히 선을 행해야 하는 첫 번째 이유는 하나님의 기억 때문입니다.사람들은 우리의 선함을 무시하지만, 하나님은 우리의 행함을 잊지 않으십니다.

6절: 하나님께서 각 사람에게 그 행실대로 갚으신다.

7절: 꾸준히 선을 행하며 영광과 불멸을 구하는 자에게는 영생을 주신다.

10절: 선한 일을 행하는 자에게는 영광과 평화를 주신다.

하나님의 기억은 위로이자 두려움입니다.은밀한 중에 흘린 눈물, 억울했던 수고, 수모까지도 하나님은 아십니다. 그렇기에 꾸준히 선을 행하는 삶은 절대 손해 보는 삶이 아닙니다.그리고 우리의 죄는 십자가에서 덮어 주셨습니다.

히브리서 10:17 – “그들의 죄와 불법을 다시는 기억하지 않으리라”

요한일서 1:9 – “죄를 자백하면 깨끗하게 하신다”

하나님의 기억은 회복과 위로의 근거이며, 이 은혜를 붙잡고 살아가는 힘이 됩니다.

(2) 공정 – 하나님의 심판은 외모를 보지 않습니다 (11절)

두 번째 이유는 하나님의 공정함입니다. 하나님은 외모로 판단하지 않으시고 중심을 보십니다.

11절: “하나님은 외모로 사람을 취하지 않으신다.”

외모는 배경, 조건, 능력, 사회적 지위 등입니다.이런 것으로 판단하지 않고, 하나님은 내면과 중심을 보십니다. 사무엘상 16장을 떠올리면, 사무엘은 외모 좋은 자를 택하려 했지만

하나님은 말씀하십니다: “사람은 외모를 보나, 나는 중심을 본다.”

하나님의 심판은 마치 엑스레이와 같습니다.겉모습은 통과되지 않고, 내면의 뼈대와 진실이 드러납니다. 사람들은 몰라줘도, 하나님은 아십니다.남몰래 한 수고, 눈물, 기도도 하나님은 기억하십니다. 그분의 공정하심이 신자에게 위로가 되고, 선한 삶을 계속하게 하는 힘이 됩니다.

(3) 영광 – 하나님은 선한 자에게 존귀를 주십니다 (7절)

세 번째 이유는 하나님이 주시는 영광입니다.7절: ‘참고 선을 행하여 영광과 존귀와 썩지 아니함을 구하는 자에게는 영생으로 하신다.’

하나님은 낙심과 외로움을 아시고, 조롱받은 선함과 눈물을 기억하시며, 영광으로 갚으십니다. 마 25:21 – “잘하였도다 착하고 충성된 종아… 주인의 즐거움에 참여할지어다.” 하나님이 주시는 영광은 세상의 명예와 비교할 수 없는 영원한 존귀입니다.

비웃음 속에서도 참고, 꾸준히 선을 행해야 합니다.왜냐하면, 하나님이 기억하시기 때문이고,하나님이 공정하게 심판하시기 때문이며, 하나님이 영광과 존귀로 보상해 주시기 때문입니다.

사람이 몰라줘도,하나님은 기억하시고, 정확하게 판단하시고,수고한 자에게 명예와 존귀로 응답하십니다. 세상 앞에서 위축되지 말고, 외모가 아닌 중심을 보시는 하나님 앞에서 묵묵히, 꾸준히 선을 행하는 삶이 되시길 바랍니다.그 길 끝에 하나님이 약속하신 영생과 기쁨이 있습니다.

Romans 15: Steadfast Even in Mockery (Romans 2:4–11)

1. The Reality of Mockery

Today, we will reflect on Romans 2:4–11 under the title “Steadfast Even in Mockery.” In this passage, the word “mockery” corresponds to “contempt” in verse 4, and “steadfastness” corresponds to “perseverance” in verse 7.

God’s kindness and patience are being mocked by many. But the core message of today’s text is: Do not be shaken. Persevere. Keep doing good. Why? Because God’s judgment is just.

Mockery is a reality that believers often face. Living a righteous life is a life modeled after God. In a world where revenge and deceit are commonplace, living with honesty and justice is difficult—and often ridiculed.

As Kierkegaard said, “Faith is the ability to endure the incomprehensible.” Faith is the strength to endure.

In today’s message, we will look at three reasons why we must persevere and do good, even in the midst of mockery.

2. Three Reasons to Persevere in Doing Good

(1) God Remembers Our Goodness (Verses 6–10)

The first reason we must continue to do good is God’s remembrance. Though people may ignore or ridicule our goodness,

God never forgets our acts of righteousness.

Verse 6: “God ‘will repay each person according to what they have done.’”

Verse 7: “To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.”

Verse 10: “Glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good.”

God’s remembrance is both comforting and sobering.He knows our tears, hidden sacrifices, and every injustice we endure. That’s why continuing in good works is never in vain.

And when it comes to our sin? God covers it with the cross.

Hebrews 10:17 – “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”

1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us.”

God’s memory is the basis of both healing and comfort, and holding onto that grace gives us strength to live faithfully.

(2) God Judges Fairly, Without Partiality (Verse 11)

The second reason is God’s justice and fairness. He does not judge by outward appearances, but looks at the heart. Verse 11: “For God does not show favoritism.”

Outward appearance refers to things like social status, background, or ability. God does not judge by these but sees the inner being.

Recall 1 Samuel 16, where Samuel is impressed by Jesse’s eldest son, but God corrects him: “People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

God’s judgment is like an X-ray. No matter how nice the outside looks, He sees straight to the inside—bones and all. People may not see or understand, but God knows. He sees the secret efforts, the tears, the prayers.

God’s fairness is a great comfort for believers and gives us strength to continue in doing good.

(3) God Rewards with Eternal Glory (Verse 7)

The third reason is the glory that God gives to those who do good. Verse 7: “To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.”

God knows our discouragement and loneliness. He sees the ridicule we endure and the goodness we offer—and He will repay us with glory. Matthew 25:21 – “Well done, good and faithful servant… Come and share your master’s happiness!” God’s glory is an eternal and incomparable honor.

3. Conclusion

So, why must we remain steadfast and continue doing good even in mockery?

Because God remembers.

Because God judges justly.

Because God rewards with glory.

Even if people don’t recognize us, God does. He judges accurately, remembers our efforts, and will honor us with glory and joy.

So do not be discouraged before the world. Fix your eyes on God, who sees the heart, and walk steadfastly in goodness. At the end of that path lies the eternal life and joy that God has promised. Amen.
